The origin of Reblochon dates back to the 13th century, in the mountain pastures of the Thônes valleys, through clandestine marauding.
At that time, landowners, most often monks or nobles, had the right of ociège over peasants who worked on mountain pastures. This fee was charged once a year and depended on the number of pots of milk produced by the herd in one day. The amount of butter and cheese they could give was deducted from this.
